A philological study on poisoning, side effects of Borneolum Syntheticum(龍腦)

Abstract

|
Borneolum Syntheticum is in use in Korean medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Borneolum Syntheticum for resuscitation(開竅), clearing away heat(淸熱), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, side effects, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Borneolum Syntheticum. The results were summarized as follows: 1.Borneolum Syntheticum can cause allergic reaction by internal or external using. And when patients take excessive dosage of Borneolum Syntbeticum, poisoning reaction can occur. Taking excessive dosage of Borneolum Syntbeticum can cause efflorescence, symptoms of the stomach and intestine and the central nervous symptoms, etc. 2.The representative methods of poisoning treatment are promotion of vomiting, washing out the stomach, causing diarrhea and symptomatic treatment, etc. 3.In order to prevent against poisoning of Borneolum Syntheticum, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
